Re: Firefox vs Firefox ESR on Linux
I find it interesting that Ive seen quite a few surveys that claim Firefox is the number one browser among Linux users. Also most use Firefox not the ESR version.
Re: Firefox vs Firefox ESR on Linux
I always preferred ESR and still use it. The original concept has, I think, been swamped by the new FF rolling out changes much more rapidly than they used to.
If you want to use ESR in an Ubuntu distro you've got to fiddle around adding a PPA whilst it is out of the box in Debian. +++++
So, lots of folks use 'buntu and unless people know about ESR they're not going to fiddle around trying to add it.
Therefore it's a pointless 'survey' since it proves what is already the case due to non-inclusive actions by one major distro creator......

Re: Firefox vs Firefox ESR on Linux
Many Debian based distros though dont use Firefox ESR, MX Linux and Netrunner for instance by choice, so it may not be quite that cut an dry.
Given the wide range of distros and the fact that some of the most popular distros right now are Debian based(MX Linux)and Arch based(Manjaro) not just Ubuntu based, Ill cut them some slack.
The fact though that Firefox is being used more than Chrome/Chromium with Linux users, which was the main point, is interesting. Surveys rarely reflect things accurately, nonetheless sometimes they still surprise with their results.
A lot of these surveys come from tech sources that arent Linux based. Ive been accused of that over the years at certain tech sites. Windows users dont have the proper perspective in regards to Linux and dont see the obvious sometimes. Its certainly improved hugely as Linux has gained in popularity and visibility.
On a side note, given the financial/market issues, its doubtful Firefox will be around much longer.
