Whats crazy is many distros are using much older versions so lets hope this release may push things a bit.

I only know of a few distro's (Debian, Mageia) that uses EOL versions. A ton of distro's do use LO Still branch, which is still supported until 6.2 is released (at which point 6.0 becomes EOL, 6.1 becomes still, 6.2 becomes fresh). I do only know of a few that are using Fresh though, which is sad, since the fresh branch has been much improved over still in the last few years.

Many distros Ive used recently are using some version of 6.0, except for Mageia, which is using 5.3 but it has many apps that arent up to date compared to say Rosa.

Yeah. There's been a fairly large difference from 6.0 to 6.1, although 6.0 is still fully supported (for now).
