Honestly Ive never used Isblock but love hardinfo.

Really? How do you know what your usb device is before doing a dd?

I rarely use dd to be honest. Most of my distros identify the USB drive(and contents) with no issues and I use other apps(Rufus,unetbootin,Etcher,clonezilla) to create USB drives(or other drives) or make changes.

I came from Windows not Linux and my experience was different.

I've always used either lsblk (as user) or blkid (as root) depending what info I needed.

You and tlmiller are Debian users so thats to be expected but many people have different/less experience and do things a bit differently.

Fedora certainly gave me quite the education coming from Windows.

I use lsblk on Fedora, Arch, Mageia, and *buntu, too. I've never known another way until recently of checking what a usb drive was and writing to it other than lsblk and dd.

Interesting as I was just the opposite. Im still more of a Windows user than a Linux user because of the various projects and sites Im involved with right now. Thats changing though as Ive been much more involved with Linux gaming, Distro reviews and driver testing the last 5 years.
