Supposedly Opera team has REALLY sped up the chromium code. According to their reports on their latest release, it's some 38% faster than Firefox Quantum 58.

However, I also consider it unusable because of too many features/extensions that work in chromium that don't work in Opera, that make it so that the browser doesn't work the way I want it to and I haven't found a way to do so.

I use firefox as my default again since 57 was released with Chromium as my backup browser and also as my browser I'll do all my work in when working from home, before that I used Chromium with Chrome as my backup.

Just going by their stats on their page. That's what they claim. Last I used it (not long ago, maybe not the absolutely newest version), I would agree that it seemed more or less the same speed as Quantum. I dislike the UI they went with however, and so don't even download it anymore.

Opera is an extra option, as Im not wild about their UI either but I like Opera more than Chrome.

If I had to choose, I'll probably agree with you. I like everything about Chrome better EXCEPT the all important google monitoring your every click.

I've been using Pale-moon for quite a while now and am very happy with it, I have Firefox installed but rarely use it as it has slowed down a bit since installing (as is normally the case) and doesn't give the same speed boost that I noticed when I first installed it. It could well be quicker than Pale-moon as I have read in many posts/articles, but I'm happy with the consistent speed of Pale-moon.
