You can download a free (30,60,90?) day evaluation version of Office 2018.
And when (if) FreeOffice 2018 is released, it quite literally is just SoftMaker Office with features disabled.

Already downloaded the Softmaker free trial but will also give Free Office a look.

My wife decided to go to MS Office 2016 as she has a source that can get it very cheaply. Im still going to test FreeOffice and see how it does.
I tried the older version when you suggested it and really liked it over Libreoffice.
