I'm using the newest versions of both. I tried yt-dlp and it didn't work on my computer. Plus, command line is too bulky for me.

I don't know if my yt-dlp is the latest version but I'm used to being behind the curve with Debian Stable and as long as it works I don't worry about it. But I have to challenge the command line being "bulky" I can't think of much that is more streamlined than typing yt-dlp and then the link to a video??? I know there are many options available for fine tuning the download and receiving specific formats but I'm of the opinion that so long as the format is viewable to me and the resolution is adequate I get exactly what I have asked for.

I will try to install the GUI version of it. I'm just used to using YouTube Video and Audio Downloader (YD) extension. With one click, it just downloaded audio I wanted. I really don't save videos, that much. I'm not that good with command line, but, a GUI interface is more to my liking.

No worries m8, it's an each to their own kinda thing, hope you find a solution that works for you.

Just as a side note you can use a config file with yt-dlp to only download audio but understand this isn't a solution you are looking for.

Try this Capt, not something Ive tried but it might work. https://researchguides.case.edu/c.php?g=1286426

It uses VLC and might be a decent alternative.

I use the command line when I really need it but prefer GUI as do you.

Dai
The packages that I selected where yt- dlp and yt-dlp GUI. They were the ones that came up in the stable repos of synaptic package manager. I selected them to be installed, clicked on install, and that message came up,and then it quit, without installing anything.

I know you are not comfortable with using a terminal but when things like this happen you would get some feedback about what went wrong, I could guess there is a problem with the apt database and maybe updating sources would sort that out? also I just checked and there is an option in synaptic Edit -> Fix Broken Packages which might help.
