I guess for the masses its ok versus using Windows but overall its not much better. I want hardware I can control and have decent security and not steal data from me at will.
Agreed. I will stick to my "dumb" tv's as long as they're available. My current is rather old (for a flat screen), but it works fine and is big enough for the wife and I, so no plans on replacing it.

I don't think anyone would get much from my Smart-Tv but I do understand your concerns. :)

Some smart tvs have cameras and microphones and get hacked so they can be used for other purposes. Anything you enter on the tv is subject to being hacked and stolen and there are some pretty wild stories about these issues. Its a crazy situation.

Mine wasn't that smart, I just returned it (bought in January this year) and got full refund (very surprised!) as it wasn't changing channels properly, so looking for a new tv now and might just get a standard LedTv rather than a smart one as the smart functions do not get used so I can get a better quality one for the same money (hopefully).

Non-smart tvs are still the norm and there are some great deals out there right now. My recent tv was one thrown out in perfect condition, so its in my living room,I love free!
