Its interesting they went this route as they could have developed something different like Vivaldi.

How so? The new Edge is more like Vivaldi than anything else. Taking the rendering engine from Chromium and throwing out basically everything else of the browser.

Ive never used Edge(I never use Microsoft based browsers) so wouldnt know what it was like. I assumed it was the usual Windows mess and they could have gone with something unique like Vivaldi. If its indeed like Vivaldi it bodes well for the switch, but Ill never use it regardless.
Re: Top 5 Chromium based browsers of 2018
Given I don't have Windows, it's obvious that I'll never use it either.
As far as Edge as it exists today, it's basically a less usable IE with a lot of lipstick on it to make it seem more modern...
But the implementation they're going to is going to be very Vivaldi like. Going to use the rendering engine and that's it from chromium, so the entire UI will be MS design and implemented, just the rendering engine will be from Chromium so their browser works on sites.

Mozilla's CEO wasnt happy about the news in regards to overall competition.
Re: Top 5 Chromium based browsers of 2018
Not surprised, but also he can't be that shocked. MS used the market leader as a base. Mozilla has noone to blame but themselves for Chrome dominating the market. When Chrome was released with a superior design, it took Mozilla like 4 years to respond. And then more recently, it took them FOREVER to implement multi-threading support to improve the performance of Mozilla above that of a salt-soaked snail. Mozilla keeps making poor choices and wonder why they're not the market leader...
