Here are some o fmy favorite apps.
Hardinfo- great app that gives complete system information including details on hardware.
Bleachbit- get rid of those unwanted files and leftovers.
Gkrellm- hardware monitor that overs many choices for configuration, appearance and features.
HTop- monitors memory usage from an easy to reach console interface.

pinta (although the version in Debian & Ubuntu is broken currently)
shutter on anything other than plasma 5, spectacle on plasma 5
