Is anybody using a discrete sound card?

Post by crosscourt »

Have we gotten to the point where onboard sound is good enough that discrete sound cards arent the norm?

I havent used a discrete sound card in quite some time as Ive been satisfied with the onboard integrated sound with my Intel systems.

Im impressed with how good the sound is with my games but then again I play both older and newer games, with the nod to older games, so its probably not as much an issue.

I actually am. It's a C-Media card, so the same type of chipset as would be found on a onboard sound, but it's a discrete card because the onboard sound on my desktop died about 3 years ago.

I havent run into many gamers in my area that use discrete sound cards any more.

For most it is a waste of money given the quality of integrated sound these days.
