I was curious if Gnome Boxes would run Windows 10. I made a new box in Gnome Boxes, pointed it toward a Windows 10 installer I had downloaded and let Boxes create a machine. Windows 10 runs just fine in Gnome Boxes. I expected that if it did run, it would run in some trial mode. But Windows 10 reports that it is running Windows 10 Pro and that it is activated.
I have no idea why that is so. The IdeaCentre came with Win 10 Home, so if it is somehow pulling license from the firmware or the machine uuid then it got the wrong edition of Windows. The installer was just an universal installer downloaded from MS. Not a clue why I ended up with an activated Windows 10 Pro install. In any event my virtualized Windows 10 install is more feature rich than the Windows 10 that came on the machine.
