Wandering thru Youtube, I was amazed how many videos Ive seen recently with Linux influencers moving to Firefox. The recent issues with Google has had an effect on Chrome usage.

Given that Mozilla are now working hand in hand with Facebook ............... https://www.osnews.com/story/140247/i-t ... -features/ it will soon make no difference what you use. Oh and Apple are doing the same sort of thing so no refuge there....

I still use a browser a lot, but overtime I find myself relying more on special purpose things to get stuff from the web. I use an RSS reader for the bulk of my news. Apps on the phone/tablet are used for a great deal of the shopping and business things I need to get done. I am sure these things scape as much data as they can too, but then since you are doing business with them anyway, it is pretty much a given that they are scraping everything they can from you.

There are not many browsers that use an independent rendering engines. Dilo, Midori and ??? are independent, but it seems rare to run across people using them. Vivaldi, Brave, PaleMoon and the like use one of the main rendering engines and talk a good privacy game, but since they rely on engines created by the worlds biggest scrapers of user data, it is hard to trust them fully. And probably it is the site itself that is gathering everything it can.

Ive already disabled the Web Advertising feature in settings in Firefox 128. I wish Firefox didnt have to go this route to survive but such is the nature of things today. Firefox isnt perfect but its at least more privacy oriented than the many Chrome/Chromium based browsers.
