MX Linux Program Installer

One thing I don't like about Linux in general, is if you want to install a program by a disc, you have to jump thru hoops to try to install it. You have to open Wine, then make a file using command line, then add it to the file, then configure Wine, blah, blah, blah. Hopefully, you can convince it to install. Is there something like Windows Install Wizard for Linux..? I'm aware of Synaptic Package Manager, that installs from the repos. But, for those of us who aren't command line savy, this is a real problem. Got any suggestions..?

I don't use any M$ software on Linux, I prefer to dual boot and have the option to install "correctly" if I need a M$ compatible piece of software, I tried using VM's but found Windows to be a pain, probably more down to me rarely using it more than it not working properly though. I do think it is a much simpler solution to dual boot, if you have compatible hardware that is...

If you take a look at Wine HQ Forum you might be able to find more helpful information.

I don't really use Windows software anymore, but on 1 system that I do, I do keep a VM handy with a $5 "greyware" license on it.

All I found at the Wine help site was alot of discussions about command line dribble. Most people that I know, don't even use the terminal. I will try to find some tutorials on how to actually use Wine on Linux. I did see a written tutorial on it, but, after about 5 minutes, my eyes began to glaze over. :x

The command line is the single most powerful space in Linux. :geek:

I guess you don't know many people old enough who started with any version of DOS :ugeek:

This will likely involve "going down a rabbit hole" to get to any viable solution, as it is often using different tutorials I can come up with a solution to whatever problem I have by combining what I learn from many of them.

That's how I feel at the thought of using any Windows software! :D

Is there any particular software that you need to have or was the question more a general one about installing software to/with Wine.

Most of the people I know who used DOS, are deceased...
The main reason I was trying to install older drivers on Linux MX, to see if my Logitech ClickSmart camera/webcam would still work.
Cheese worked for awhile, then, I had to add a command line prompt for it to run, and Cheese didn't work well, when it did work.
I'm trying to " clean up " my home, and I have some old computer hardware lying around and I wanted to see what is still viable, and useful.
I don't want to dispose of items that could still be used. Plus, some of these items were alot of money, and worked extremely well. The landfills are overflowing as it is, for God sake...!! :x :x

From what I recall of Wine, it is run in a sandbox type container, although I might be using the wrong terms for what I mean... but my understanding is that if you install a driver in Wine it can only be used in Wine and not Linux, and with that I think that you will also need the software installed (again in Wine and so M$ software) for each device you want to test, i.e. camera. and so Linux software i.e. Cheese could not use the installed drivers anyway.

To my mind this makes Dual booting or at the very least a virtual machine a much easier to use option to Wine

If my understanding about Wine is wrong I am more than happy to be corrected by anyone as I don't have a use for it and so only looked at it with a passing interest. :D

So, how do I install the Logitech driver in dual boot mode...? I'm totally clueless on how to do this. I've only run virtual machine mode, when I was trying out a OS, to see if I wanted to install it on a machine. I need to know specifics from downloading from the disc, to booting it in dual boot mode. Thanks ahead of time.

KNowing it's for Logitech accessories, have you tried out solaar to see if it has the features you need instead of installing the Windows driver?
