I've always used the ookla one myself. In fact, Verizon (landline) specified that's the one we were to use when installing FIOS as it was very connection agnostic and was accurate for all carriers (don't know if that's true, but it works well for my Cox connection and I know it worked well when installing FIOS).

It works well for Comcast as well, speedtest.net is where I send most people fora simple check of their speed.
