Vivaldi 2.0 is out

Re: Vivaldi 2.0 is out
I've tried to like vivaldi multiple times. I find that no matter how much I try though, I just cannot bring myself to like it. The design is just...ugly.
I am trying it out nevertheless. I'll use it on Neon for a while as Waterfox just doesn't work properly on here, not sure why, but after a couple minutes, the enter key simply stops working for going to sites. You can hit the arrow key in the browser with the mouse and the browser still works, but the enter key stops working. So I'll use Vivaldi and see if I can bring myself to like it.
I will say right away their settings are FAR more navigable IMO in 2.0.
I also like that it has no title bar now. This might be enough to make me like this browser as a secondary to Firefox since Waterfox doesn't support turning off the title bar.

Been playing with it for a bit.
Definitely huge improvements in terms of UI.
Performance is by far the worst browser I have on this laptop (Chromium, Firefox, Waterfox, Vivaldi)

Re: Vivaldi 2.0 is out
So to test it out, I put Vivaldi on my Fedora install (the low end Apollo Lake Celeron) and it runs pretty much EXACTLY the same speed as the core i5. So Vivaldi actually does quite well on low-spec systems, but it's performance doesn't scale well with the system, as it runs no faster on a SIGNIFICANTLY better system, whereas Firefox/Chromium/Waterfox all perform quite a bit worse on this machine as they do on the E6440 (and very similarly to Vivaldi), but performance does therefore scale quite well.

Re: Vivaldi 2.0 is out
I found its performance was slower than Chromium which is subjective. Firefox is the fastest browser I use presently. 2.0 has improved but for me the UI still doesnt do it for me.
Re: Vivaldi 2.0 is out
I think the UI is improved, and I found some settings that allow me to improve it further for my tastes, but I agree that the UI is still the worst thing about Vivaldi. I will probably leave it on AT LEAST my Neon machine simply due to the issues with Waterfox on that machine, whereas while slow (when compared to the other browsers on there), Vivaldi does work.

Re: Vivaldi 2.0 is out
I originally tried it while testing Feren OS and found it almost unusable, but through updates it got better. I think in time it will turn into a good browser but right now its hard to deal with the lack of speed and the UI.
Re: Vivaldi 2.0 is out
I will say on my Chuwi Lapbook with hte N3450 & 6 GB ram, Vivaldi runs at the same speed as the rest of the browsers on there. So it seems that it works quite well with low resource machines. It seems though that it doesn't scale at all. Because on my much faster i5 4300m w/ 16 GB ram, it runs no faster than the N3450, while Chromium, Firefox and Waterfox all sped up rather significantly.

Re: Vivaldi 2.0 is out
Interesting as i found it slow compared to Firefox and Chromium not only on my E6400 but also on my i5 7010 desktop. It didnt matter what hardware i used, it was al;ways slower than the other browsers. Its not a huge difference but its noticeable but given the UI I couldnt stand to use it regularly anyway.
Re: Vivaldi 2.0 is out
So I spent like 10 minutes in the options, and I've actually gotten the UI to where I like it now. I actually would say it's quite attractive with how much I've had to do.
Still rather significantly slower than all other browsers on any of my good hardware. I'm actually starting to like it since it gives a moderately enough more window for the pages than Waterfox or Chromium does (since both of those have full title bars), and that's my favorite feature of the new Firefox is being able to turn off title bars. So it's growing on me. If the performance was on par with Chromium, I might even consider it to be a mainstay. But definitely the performance is NOT on par with Chromium.
